The Cosumnes River swelled to its highest level ever in history on Sunday and parts of Sacramento County flooded.
Dozens of people were rescued from cars that got stuck in the water on Sunday morning when the Cosumnes River inundated Highway 99 south of Elk Grove,reported. The TV station said that the Cosumnes Fire Department found one person dead in a car submerged in water. Caltrans shared images on Twitter of the cars covered in water. The agency temporarily closed Highway 99 between Grant Line and Dillard Road south of Elk Grove due to the flooding.
The Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services ordered residents living in the town of Wilton to shelter in place."Rising water has made roads impassable in the area," the agency ."Those who are at home should stay at home." The Point Pleasant was also under an evacuation order due to flooding.
