Angelina Torres Vallbona, a 111-year-old woman residing in Barcelona, Spain, is currently the oldest person in the country. Just two months shy of her 112th birthday, she attributes her remarkable longevity to a simple daily breakfast consisting of water with lemon and a teaspoon of sugar. She claims to have never been seriously ill throughout her life. Vallbona recently took the title of Spain's oldest person following the death of Maria Branyas, who was 117 years old.
Piedad Loriente, 113, also passed away in November. Despite her advanced age, Vallbona remains active, enjoying long walks when possible and cherishing her friendships. She describes herself as down-to-earth and compassionate, always willing to help those in need. Born in Bellvís in 1913, Vallbona has witnessed significant historical events, including the Spanish Civil War, which she says deeply affected her. She worked as a tie-maker and dressmaker before meeting her husband, Josep Martí, and having a daughter, Mercè. Vallbona is also a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to spend time with her family, especially during Christmas. She marvels at the growth of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, watching it 'grow stone by stone'. Vallbona's life philosophy centers on friendship, laughter, and family.
