The announcement follows the attack on US tourist Stephen Termini, who was hospitalised after suffering severe injuries in the north inner city last week

An extra 240,000 policing hours are being allocated to Gardaí to ensure a more visible presence in Dublin.

The Justice Minister has announced an extra €10 million in funding, which will be used to pay for 20,000 additional Garda shifts between now and the end of the year. The new funding will provide a significant boost to the overtime budget to put more guards on the beat across the Dublin Metropolitan Region..Helen McEntee is due to make the announcement today, when she attends the latest Garda graduation ceremony in the Garda College in Templemore when 87 new officers will graduate.

Minister McEntee will also say recruitment into the force is gathering pace, with bigger intakes every 11 weeks.
