REST IN PEACE: Vidal Lopez, an off-duty officer with the Houston Police Department has died Monday after his vehicle collided with a train in north Houston Wednesday morning, according to HPD Chief Troy Finner. Read more:

Lopez was hospitalized at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, where he later died.The cause of the crash is under investigation. I am deeply saddened to report that Senior Officer Vidal Lopez passed away peacefully today surrounded by his family. We ask you to pray for Vidal's family and friends, and respect the family's wish of privacy during this difficult time.
