The family run pub is small but perfectly formed
A family-run, city centre pub has been named the best in Merseyside. The Telegraph compiled a list of England's 48 ceremonial counties and the single best pub in each worthy of your attention. Taking the top spot for Merseyside is The Roscoe Head - a pub dating back almost 200 years with origins stretching even further to the 1700s. The Roscoe Street venue has been passed down in the family for generations and is currently run by landlady Carol Ross.
Her parents, Nicky and Margaret Joyce, first took over the pub back in 1981 when there was 'no roof on the toilet and it was outdoors'. In 2020, Carol won a 10-year battle to buy The Roscoe Head from its previous owners and save it from closing.
