BREAKING NEWS - Will Smith has resigned from the Academy in the wake of his slap of Chris Rock.
“I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film,” Smith said in his statement, adding that “change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”
According to the Academy on Wednesday, Smith broke the organization’s code of conduct when he walked onstage and struck Rock. The comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife during Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony, was asked but refused to leave the ceremony,
