Millions of voters cast their ballots in Ireland's 2024 General Election, with 174 seats up for grabs. An exit poll shows Sinn Fein and Fine Gael neck and neck, making the outcome uncertain. Key issues include housing, immigration, and economic challenges.

The polls opened at 7am and closed at 10pm, with a total of 174 seats to be filled – more than ever before. An exit poll released on Friday night showed Sinn Fein and Fine Gael virtually tied, making the likely result too close to call.

More than three million registered voters picked their representatives across 43 constituencies, in a campaign that has focused on the country’s housing crisis, the response to a dramatic increase in immigration, and economic management for the cost of living as well as potential future trade shocks.

Sinn Fein won the popular vote in 2020 but a failure to run enough candidates meant it did not secure sufficient seats to give it a realistic chance of forming a government.
