About 1,000 people live in Tamina. Earlier this year, community leaders said that without water and sewer, Tamina faces a slow death by attrition as older residents die, and a lack of essential infrastructure discourages new investment. “I want to compliment you guys for the good you are doing,” Roche Coleman, a community activist and senior pastor of Impact Church of The Woodlands, told Shenandoah and county leaders Wednesday. “It is long overdue.”There have been many efforts to solve the water and sewer issues, but, until now, it has been beyond the community’s economic ability, Coleman noted.
Shenandoah Mayor John Escoto said he was glad to see the project come to fruition."The residents in Tamina are in dire need of drinking water and sewer services," he said."The fact that we are going to be able to share our water and sewer services with them is a tremendous thing."
