JSO said patrol officers initially responded to a vehicle crash but when they arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
– A 23-year-old man was arrested after a man died of a gunshot wound in January, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting happened on Jan. 2, 2022. JSO said officers responded to the area of Deer Lake Drive West and Southside Boulevard in reference to a vehicle crash. When they arrived they were notified by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department that a man appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, 31-year-old Mark Ott, drove a couple of hundred yards before crashing, according to a report.Ott was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Homicide and Crime Scene Units investigated the shooting and the suspect, Mervin Flaherty, 23, was identified.According to the Sheriff’s Office, Corey Simms, 30, was also charged in regards to this shooting after he turned himself in to authorities.
