San Antonians first got to enjoy the well-loved Sky Ride at Brackenridge Park when the attraction opened on November 14, 1964. San Pedro used to be a lot more tempting to drive down, as it was home of the iconic moving billboard from Butter Krust at the Hildebrand intersection. Older folks will remember Captain Gus from the childhood. The character, played by Joe Alston, was part of the children’s program that ran from 1953 to 1979.
