Three Bay Area counties are ending mask mandate exemptions and fully aligning with the state order.
Health departments in San Francisco and Sonoma counties did not immediately respond to SFGATE requests for comment.
Of the other four Bay Area counties, Santa Clara, San Mateo and Napa counties never carved out exemptions for offices and gyms. Solano County is the only Bay Area county that did not issue a mask mandate in response to the delta variant over the summer and was compelled to bring back masks in all indoor public settings by the state order. Under California law, counties are bound to follow a state health order if it is more restrictive than one in place locally.
