Not all furry creatures are your friends. UT Austin Office of Campus Safety warns people to not approach raccoons after three students were bitten.
The office reminds everyone that raccoons are wild creatures that can bite or scratch and transmit rabies. Anyone who comes across one should not approach, feed or attempt to pet it.
It is believed the wild animal is residing outside the McCombs/PCL buildings. UT Austin Office of Campus Safety says the raccoon may feel threatened by close contact, especially if it has babies with it. People are warned to not take pictures with or be in close proximity with the animal. If you are bitten or scratched by a raccoon, you should seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
