The development could see one area of Birkenhead change forever
The Hind Street Urban Village development will bring in over £300m of public and private investment into the town if it goes ahead, according to Ion Developments, who are behind the project. It is one of the largest planned projects being carried out by Wirral Council as part of its regeneration plans for the Birkenhead area.
There will also be major changes to Birkenhead’s town centre with a complete reshuffle of the roads around the Queensway Tunnel and the removal of two flyovers as part of the project. The project will also tie into the proposed new Dock Branch park that will run along an old train line. According to Wirral Council, the funding approved on July 17 will give assurances to both the Liverpool City Region and Homes England whose funding will go towards the first two phases of the project.
It added: “The scale and location of the regeneration area presents an opportunity to create a sustainable, market changing urban village that helps to set a standard for future development in the face of the climate emergency.”
