Gardaí in Dublin arrested a man after seizing €400,000 worth of cannabis during a raid on a residence in Swords. 20kg of cannabis was found and €7,000 in cash was also seized.
Gardaí in Dublin conducted a raid on a residence in Swords on Saturday as part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of illegal drugs. During the search, officers seized 40 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis herb, each weighing approximately 500g, with a combined total of 20kg and a street value of €400,000 (pending analysis). €7,000 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, was also seized.
A male in his 40s was arrested at the scene under suspicion of violating the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84 and is currently detained at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary, DMR, stated that this large seizure represents another step towards dismantling a criminal gang from whom An Garda Síochána has now seized over €2 million in illegal drugs. He emphasized that the Garda's continued efforts will target and bring to justice those involved in criminal activity within communities. This operation is part of Operation Tara, a national anti-drug strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021. Operation Tara aims to disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels, including international, national, and local organizations involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs. A Garda spokesperson confirmed that investigations remain ongoing
