A 48-hour dispersal order is being introduced in Rossendale from this afternoon after a spate of anti social behaviour in the area.
Most of Waterfoot and Edgeside is being placed within the dispersal zone which runs from 4pm today until 4pm on Saturday . Rossendale Police said it is comes after 'reports last night that youths were involved in disorder in the Edgeside area'. Dispersal orders come under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour and Policing Act 2014, which gives police officers powers to direct people who are engaging in anti-social behaviour, or who they believe could become involved in such incidents. They also have the power to seize any item used in the commission of anti-social behaviour.If a person who has previously been directed to leave the dispersal zone area returns, an offence would be committed and they could be arrested.
Insp Chris Valentine, of Rossendale Police, said: "Following on from reports last night that youths were involved in disorder in the Edgeside area a dispersal order under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 will be in effect from 4pm tonight for an initial period of 48 hours.
"This order means that officers are able to direct a person to leave the area outlined by the map if they suspect they are likely to involve themselves in anti-social behaviour. Failure to comply with the request is a criminal offence.
