The 49ers know they’ll host a playoff game after clinching the NFC West, but there’s a lot still up in the air with two games to play.

The 49ers already know they’ll be home for the first round of the playoffs, but there’s still much left to be determined — and there’s still an outside shot that they could end up as the NFC’s No. 1 overall seed.

That confluence of events isn’t very likely: FiveThirtyEight gives the 49ers just a 2% chance at the No. 1 seed. That’s why the 49ers and their fans will likely keep their eyes all across the NFC as San Francisco plays out its final two games of the regular season to see who they’ll take on in the wild-card round.

So which teams could the 49ers face in the wild-card round, and how are they looking as the NFL gets ready for the calendar to flip to 2023? Here’s a breakdown:If the season ended today, the Giants would be the 49ers’ opponent in a No. 3-vs.-No. 6 showdown. But after the Giants started the season 7-2, they’ve fallen back to the pack by going 1-4-1 in their last six games. New York nearly had its playoff spot locked up in Week 16, but lost to the Vikings on a buzzer-beating 61-yard field goal.

Even though they’re in last place in the NFC East, the Commanders are one of only two teams contending for the final two NFC wild-card spots to control their own destiny. Washington hosts the Browns in Week 17 and the Cowboys in Week 18, knowing that if they win both, they’re guaranteed to be in.When the Seahawks went to Munich to face the Buccaneers, they were atop the NFC West at 6-3. They’ve gone 1-5 since then, including three home losses and getting dominated by the Chiefs in Week 16.
