Over 600,000 families across the country will receive double Child Benefit payment worth €280 per child on Tuesday, Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys has confirmed.
The measure means that rather than €140 being paid in respect of 1.2 million children across the State from today, parents will receive €280 per child under the age of 16. The payment is also given for children who remain in full-time education until their 18th birthday.Minister Humphreys said that 638,000 families will benefit from the double payment. She explained: “Child Benefit is an extremely important income support that reaches hundreds of thousands of hardworking families.
“The double child benefit payment will be received in people’s bank accounts beginning from today. It follows the Autumn Double Payment last month, which supported 1.4 million pensioners, carers, people with disabilities and working families. Other lump sum payments coming soon include a €400 lump sum fuel allowance payment, a €200 payment for people living alone, a €500 payment for carers, a €500 support for people with disabilities and a €500 payment for those in receipt of the Working Family Payment.
