“It’s always about the story,” Juliana Delaney, Continuum’s chief executive, tells me. The state-of-the-art attraction is now more geared to a 21st-century audience, one used to watching David Attenborough, she explains. Basically, it’s been given a polish – and a voice-over byThe rejigged space is now divided into “chapters”. The first showcases the natural majesty of Loch Ness. Chapter two explores Scotland’s myths, legends and oral traditions.

Boat trips on the loch range from the traditionally touristy Jacobite Cruises to Loch Ness Cruises’ adrenaline-surging RIB rides based in the pretty village of Fort Augustus, its “Finding Nessie” trip laced with natural history, trivia and theories. Giant eels and reptilian sturgeon lacking navigational know-how, along with optical illusions created by boat wakes, have all been explored. The Loch Ness Centre’s Deepscan boat, though, has the scientific edge with its original sonar equipment.
