Michael Gove and Priti Patel clashed over security checks carried out on applicants to the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme, i has been told 🔴 Richard_AHolmes reports:
, repeatedly clashed over security vetting delaying the processing of applicants, and that it was a “bloody mess.”
An insider at Mr Gove’s Department for Levelling Up, the department which was leading the scheme, said “inexplicable pressure” had been put on civil servants to clear as many applications as possible, leading to possible security failures. She said: “There are those who would come to our country, to this country, who would mean us harm and who plot to strike at our very way of life.”The comments led to a clash between Mr Gove and Ms Patel, according to insiders. The two held a series of meetings where the subject of security vetting was highly contended, sources said.
