Many proclamations will be taking place across the country and Watford will be holding one today as well.
Today at 4pm, at the Peace Memorial by the Town Hall, a proclamation will take place formally announcing that the Queen has died, and the King has acceded the throne.
It is part of a series of proclamations taking place across the country with some having taken place yesterday.Members of the public are invited to attend, along with mayor, Peter Taylor and Watford Borough Council’s chairman, councillor Amanda Grimston. Mr Taylor said: “Through the proclamation, we are proud to confirm King Charles III as our new monarch and to be part of this truly historic time in our nation’s history.“While we mourn the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we join together to mark the accession of our new King and to send him Watford’s best wishes for a long and successful reign.”
The tradition of the proclamation, dating back hundreds of years, sees official announcements made in towns and cities across the country.
