Evanne Ní Chuilinn, a longtime sports journalist for RTÉ, has made a significant career shift by becoming a senator in the Irish Oireachtas. This transition, facilitated by a phone call from the Tánaiste, Simon Harris, sees her leveraging her expertise in good governance and sports to drive legislative reform from a political platform.
It was a phone call late one Thursday evening from the Tánaiste, Simon Harris, that flipped Evanne Ní Chuilinn's life around. The sports journalist and broadcaster, who had worked with RTÉ for the previous 21 years and who had always championed good governance and gender equality in sport, was being propositioned by the Tánaiste with a proposal to join the Seanad, and enact change from the inside out.
VIP Magazine sat down with Evanne for our October issue as she tells us that the "timing couldn't be better" for a change. The proud Gaeilgeoir finished up at RTÉ and, overnight, started in the Seanad as a Fine Gael senator, where she has since become a leading voice in the Oireachtas for legislative reform and policy change across many areas of the Irish sporting landscape.
