Melissa Lucio's lawyers file petition with new evidence they say proves the mother of 14's innocence
Also included in the petition are statements from five jurors from Lucio's capital murder trial, including one alternate, who say they would have delivered a different verdict had they been presented with the evidence Lucio’s lawyers say was hidden from the courtroom.
“I think if I heard this evidence I may have decided differently," another juror, Alejandro Saldivar, stated in the petition. The petition includes a letter from Lucio’s children, requesting Abbott and the board spare their mother's life. Some members of her family have spent the last few weeks traveling across Texas to hold rallies calling on residents to watch a 2020 documentary on the case and to sign the online petition.
