There was heavy congestion in the area close to the M42
earlier this afternoon. The incident took place on the northbound carriageway between the M42 junction 11 exit to Burton-Upon-Trent and the junction 12 B4116 exit to Measham Road.
Long delays had formed, but now the northbound stretch has reopened. National Highways has warned that delays still remain in the area, with drivers warned of tailbacks.As part of its warning to drivers, National Highways has created diversions to help those caught up in the queues along the A42.Continue southbound passing through Appleby Parva to the B4116 junction at Twycross.
At the roundabout go straight on to the northern roundabout and take the second exit to re-join A42 northbound at J12.The closure of the northbound carriageway of the A42 has of course led to traffic issues in that direction this afternoon. According to traffic data supplier Inrix, the backlog is going as far back as Junction 10 of the A42 - that's for Tamworth.
"Due to the extent of the recovery, the road will remain closed until recovery is complete. Recovery are now working on scene."Latest traffic maps show that the situation on the A42 covers a large part of the highway following the earlier collision. The northbound stretch remains closed while recovery efforts are ongoing.
