The project wants to relieve congestion and improve journey times

West Northamptonshire Council has signed off on plans to add another mile of dual-carriageway on the A43 between Northampton and Kettering. The third stage of the project to make the length of the major connecting road a dual-carriageway is predicted to cost £28.3million.

Phase 3 will see the dual-carriageway continue from Overstone Grange to the Holcot/Sywell roundabout. It will also make improvements to the end roundabout, with a view to reducing congestion in the area. The project aims to "vastly improve connectivity" from Northampton to the A14 at Kettering, helping to relieve congestion and improve journey times. Currently the journey time between the two places can take around 40 minutes.

Subject to gaining the necessary approvals and funding from both councils, construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with completion in Spring 2027. Further improvement works following the completion of phase 3 will then be delivered and determined by NNC.
