A recent survey carried out by The AA underlines how prepared Irish motorists are for winter, with both positive trends and some causes for concern emerging from the car maintenance habits of Irish drivers.
In a survey of 1,821 AA customers, the importance of winter vehicle care and its impact on road safety during the colder months is highlighted.More than half of the motorists in Ireland service their cars once a year, indicating a penchant for maintaining their cars. Of these, 18% get a check-up every six months. Price, reputation, and proximity have been identified as prime influencing factors, with 55% of the drivers finding their current providers very satisfying.
Elena Leao, Marketing and PR representative at The AA Ireland, emphasized the risks of neglecting winter maintenance. “Regular servicing, tyre maintenance, and battery checks can prevent winter breakdowns and ensure safer driving conditions,” Leao stated.: Stay updated on Met Éireann weather alerts and avoid unnecessary journeys during severe conditions.
In case of a breakdown, The AA advises staying calm, turning on hazard lights, and moving to a safe location if possible. “If it is safe to stay in the car, keep warm and remain inside while awaiting assistance,” added Leao. The survey highlights a growing awareness among Irish motorists about the importance of car maintenance. However, with 30% of drivers overlooking winter checks, The AA urges all motorists to take proactive steps to ensure their safety and that of others on the road. Simple preventive measures can make a significant difference, particularly during the unpredictable winter season.
