Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin was subjected to missiles thrown by Aberdeen fans during a Scottish Premiership match.
Police have opened an investigation after former Ireland international Jim Goodwin was targeted by fans of his former side Aberdeen on Sunday. The Dundee United boss raged after missiles, including coins and a bottle of vodka were hurled in his direction as he celebrated his side’s injury-time winner. Goodwin spent 11 months in charge of Aberdeen , between February 2022 and January 2023, after a series of disastrous results, including a Scottish Cup exit to sixth tier side Darvel.
Two months later he took over at Dundee United, saved them from relegation and turned them, this season, into European contenders. Sunday’s result moved them to within three points of third-placed Aberdeen - but the big story afterwards was the reaction of a section of the away support towards their former manager. Waterford native Goodwin said: “I tried to be as reserved as I possibly could be when the goal went in. “It’s disappointing again, the amount of missiles that are coming down from above. There was a bottle of vodka, coins, firelighters and everything coming down on us. “I’m not sure what I’ve said in the past to upset them that much. Obviously things didn’t work out the way that I would have liked it, the way that they would have liked it when I was a manager, but I haven’t said anything derogatory about that football club. “To have that type of stuff hurled down on top of us, it’s not acceptable. “I hope the authorities look at it.
