TONIGHT: Clear, light winds, and very cold. Dropping to the teens in the suburbs, mid 20s for the city.
WEDNESDAY: Tomorrow is the winter solstice at 4:48pm and it marks the beginning of astronomical winter here in the northern hemisphere. The sun's direct rays are now at their farthest point south and will slowly migrate northward toward the equator over the next 3 months. While we will begin to slowly see more and more daylight we still have to get through our coldest temperatures of the year on average.
THURSDAY: The morning starts off dry and then rain develops from south to north in the morning to early afternoon. It will be heavy at times with over an inch of rain coming our way. Across parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes this will be a blizzard, bringing air and road travel to a halt. We're on the mild side of this storm so it's just rain for us with a high of 48 and temperatures rising at night.
THURSDAY NIGHT-FRIDAY: We have an AccuWeather Alert for Thursday night into Friday as a powerful storm will be lifting through the Great Lakes late this week and here in the east a wave will develop ahead of it and move up the coastal plain bringing us a soaking rain of 1-2". This begins as we go through the day on Thursday with the heaviest Thursday night into Friday morning.
CHRISTMAS EVE: Bitterly cold with intervals of clouds and sun, high 23. When you factor in the winds it will feel like the single digits all day.MONDAY: Partly sunny and remaining cold with a snow shower possible, high 32.
