But then again, Lambert hadn’t realized how far he could get on the strength of his talent alone, either. “When I went to audition, I was like, ‘Man, I don’t think they’re going to take me. I’m the gay guy. This is a pipe dream,'” he recalled of auditioning for. “And I made it to the final, and I couldn’t believe it. I mean, I had no idea that it would go that long. And then, once I got off the show, I got signed a record contract.
