Advocates claim Calumet City immigrant pending a trial for a fatal crash he witnessed is being illegally detained in Will County.

Heather Miller, executive assistant to the Will County state’s attorney, said the county can’t speculate on what ICE will do as it is outside its jurisdiction.[Most read] Watch live: Jussie Smollett sentencing for phony hate crime“Mr. Navarro served a 40-month sentence in federal prison for a drug offense and was being detained by the federal government as they moved forward with his deportation,” she said.
Navarro witnessed the accident involving Woulfe, then of Beecher who has since moved to Orland Park. According to his mother, Aida Navarro, Norberto was on the scene and tried to save the victims.She said her son has been traumatized by witnessing the accident.“I want to help the father who lost his entire family in this car crash,” he said. “I can’t imagine the pain he has been through the past few years. I will testify no matter what happens because it’s the right thing to do.
