A frequent business traveller expresses frustration over Aer Lingus's decision to suspend its Dublin to Frankfurt route from November 2nd until March 28th, 2027. After making 54 flights in 2026, mostly for work, the traveller notes that the route consistently operated at high capacity and questions the airline's logic in reducing it to a summer-only destination. As a result, the traveller will redirect corporate spending to German carrier Lufthansa.
Sir, – I have just completed my 54th flight of 2026, most of which have been for work but some were for leisure, and I know my carbon footprint is appalling.
Nearly all of these flights were with I travel to Frankfurt at least 10 times a year. When planning a recent trip, I found that, according to Aer Lingus’s new schedule, there are no flights available from November 2nd until March 28th, 2027. Not once on my flights to Frankfurt have I noticed that the flight, no matter the time of day, was not busy, if not almost at capacity.
I cannot understand the logic of Aer Lingus declaring Frankfurt to be a more or less summer-only destination. So now, instead of spending a lot of money, albeit my company’s, on an ostensibly Irish product, I have to give it to Lufthansa in Germany.

Minister Harris announces investment scheme and signals broader capital tax reformMinister for Finance Simon Harris has released further details of a planned investment account scheme aimed at making stock market investment easier. The announcement also signals an intent to lower retail investment taxation, though not in the current budget, alongside commitments to examine easing inheritance tax burdens. The article cautions that reducing capital taxes without addressing wider fiscal trade-offs risks hollowing out the tax base, especially given reliance on volatile corporation tax receipts and looming ageing-population costs. It acknowledges legitimate reform needs, including simplifying the deemed disposal rule and easing the administrative burden on small investors.
