IAG-owned carrier blames pilots’ industrial action and increased transatlantic competition for decline

Aer Lingus reported a €20 million decline in operating profits for 2024, blaming industrial action over the summer and increase in competition for transatlantic traffic.

The carrier, which is owned by International Airlines Group, said it carried 11 million passengers in 2023, an almost 3 per cent increase from 2023 after expanding its North American route network in the year. Still, operating profits dropped by almost 9 per cent in the year from €225 million in 2023 to €205 million last year.

Aer Lingus said its second and third financial quarters were “impacted by industrial action “and an increase in transatlantic competitor capacity”.‘Different currency, same people.’ All-island market offers opportunity and challenges on both sides of the BorderThe Irish Times Business Person of the Month: Stephen Garvey, GlenveaghGeorge Clooney: ‘I told Amal, I can still do everything I did when I was 30.
