“To me, that’s what makes music magical and important. The fact that it comes from this human being who has had their heart broken or fallen in love. We want songs like that to walk up the isle to, or to play at funerals – those are part of the glue of our society, they’re part of what makes us human and for me, that’s not something I want to see AI involved with.
Professor Zak believes that, in the longer term, it could be used in other areas as well. “It is likely that this approach can be used to predict hits for many other kinds of entertainment too, including movies and TV shows,” he said.Using AI to predict hit songs selection will undoubtedly worry some people as yet another example of the increasing role technology is playing in almost every aspect of our lives.
