Irishman matches D Wayne Lukas on 20 Breeders’ Cup successes after Friday night’s juvenile double

He is one ahead of both Chad Brown and Bob Baffert.
The day one Irish hat-trick wasn’t added to in Saturday night’s action where City Of Troy’s Classic eclipse proved a bitter disappointment for the O’Brien team.The 24-year-old from Tuam secured the biggest win of his career on board Bluestocking in last month’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and again teamed up with English trainer Ralph Beckett for Starlust.
“It wasn’t the plan, Ralph left it up to me. I jumped well, Ralph said over five try to jump well but after half a furlong take a little pull. Luck was on my side today, the gap opened, and he took it well,” Ryan said. William Buick had the Charlie Appleby-trained stalwart prominent throughout and his kick off the final bend proved decisive to holding on by a neck. He is the first horse to win the Turf twice in non-consecutive years.
“It’s a tough game with this side of it and it makes you appreciate it when a horse like does it at the age of six. It shows how tough these horses are and how much they enjoy it,” he added.
