Some lawmakers say that different policies across the services undermine good order and discipline and could create a scenario where a troop in one service is treated differently than someone in another service, despite similar circumstances. “At a time when our adversaries continue to increase their quantitative and qualitative advantage against our forces, we should seek to ensure that no policy, even unintentionally, hinders military readiness,” Sen. U.S. service members are required to get more than a dozen vaccines and immunizations to serve but the Covid-19 vaccine has been particularly divisive. To get troops to comply, services have in some cases counseled troops about the vaccine. Officials have warned that those who aren’t vaccinated can’t deploy and eventually won’t be promoted.
