An Alabama bill would allow motorcyclists 21 and older to ride without helmets. alpolitics
Updated: Feb. 16, 2022, 4:31 p.m. |A bill to end the requirement for adult motorcycle riders to wear a helmet in Alabama was held up today in an House committee.
Twenty-nine states require helmets only for certain groups, such as those under 21 or under 18. In Florida, for example, riders over 21 are not required to wear a helmet if they carry medical insurance or pass a safety course. Rep. Chris England, D-Tuscaloosa, said the state has a reason to have laws that protect public safety, such as requiring seat belts, partly because of the cost of medical care for those who suffer severe injuries.
