The Alien franchise returns with 'Alien: Romulus,' a standalone interquel set between the original 'Alien' and 'Aliens.' Director Fede Alvarez promises a gore-filled experience as a group of space colonists encounter terrifying Xenomorphs.

The Alien franchise is back this summer with another installment, Alien: Romulus . While fans won't see Sigourney Weaver returning as Ellen Ripley, the iconic facehuggers and their terrifying mothers are back. The latest trailer promises a gruesome experience, fitting for director Fede Alvarez , known for his work on Evil Dead and Don't Breathe.

Alien: Romulus is the seventh film in the Alien franchise (ninth including the Predator crossovers) and acts as a standalone interquel set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). It follows a group of young space colonists who encounter some truly nightmarish creatures while scavenging a derelict space station. The film features a cast including Cailee Spaeny as Rain Carradine, Isabela Merced as Kay, and David Jonsson as Andy. The ensemble also includes Archie Renaux as Tyler, Spike Fearn as Bjorn, and Aileen Wu as Navarro. Those hoping for a cameo from Ellen Ripley will be disappointed. At this point in the timeline, Ripley is in stasis for 57 years, traveling through space with her escape shuttle Jonesy towards her fateful encounter with a Xenomorph queen. However, franchise deviations from established storylines are not uncommon.Watch the trailer below to get a glimpse of the terror awaiting in Alien: Romulus. The film is set to premiere in Irish cinemas on August 16th
