All-Ireland clash delayed due to fatal incident on train line as Irish Rail report major disruption

The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship quarter-final clash between Cork and Kilkenny has been delayed by 15 minutes due to a fatal incident on the train line near Portlaoise.The line was closed for a time, with Irish Rail reporting “major disruption”, with the the Cork Camogie team travelling to Dublin on one of the trains affected.

It is understood they were placed on a bus that Irish Rail arranged to transport them the rest of the way to Croke Park. An Irish Rail spokesperson said: “Major disruption to services. Emergency services are attending a tragic incident on the line between Ballybrophy and Portlaoise. Services are not operating in the area.”

At 12.30pm they confirmed the line is reopening and services will resume in the area, although “significant knock-on delays are expected”. The Cork, Limerick and Tralee to Heuston services are among those affected, with thousands of supporters heading to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final clash between Kilkenny and Clare at 4pm expected to also be affected.
