Police issued a new order in Liverpool to help crackdown on further crimes following the violent scenes this week

Police have been given additional powers to stop and search anyone in Liverpool city centre tonight. The increased police powers come following the violent scenes that broke out in Southport earlier this week in the wake of Monday's devastating knife attack on Hart Street. Alice Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six, all died after being stabbed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on Monday, July 29.

Under new powers granted by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, officers will have enhanced powers to stop and search individuals. An existing section 60 order in Southport, put in place on Tuesday night, has also been extended. It covers all of Southport Town centre, including Sussex Road and St Luke’s Road and covers the villages of Ainsdale, Hillside and Birkdale.
