'There was a lot of talk around Rovers and money and this and that but in hindsight it had absolutely nothing to do with it.'

Amanda Budden says that Shamrock Rovers' season is finally ready for take-off - even if they've got the defending champions up next.

"Getting that win was important for the young players because not winning can get into their heads and they can think that nothing's working out. Budden began her career at Wilton before moving to Cork City for seven years, then to Galway briefly during Covid and then on to Shelbourne, where she won the double in 2022.

"There was a lot of talk around Rovers and money and this and that but in hindsight it had absolutely nothing to do with it. Budden predicts that up to six clubs could win the League this year. Having made her debut at 16, she admits it's a different world now, some 13 years on."When one of those Dublin teams won it again you'd barely even know! But the League has exploded now, and Ireland making it to the World Cup has helped to lift it again.
