Britain's Got Talent is back on our screens this weekend and the judges were left amazed by the talent on offer - with the show breaking a golden buzzer record
Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden was left astonished as she compared a new participant to a worldwide sensation in this year's competition where the show smashed its record of golden buzzer acts. Traditionally, each of the judges and Ant & Dec collectively have one vote that sends an act straight into the live finals.
The iconic music mogul, aged 64, expressed his delight over the newfound excitement, which left the production team with the challenge of maintaining some form of balance within the proceedings. Similar to the dynamics at school, Cowell mused saying: "The teachers keep coming in saying, 'You know, can we try and keep the golden buzzers down? ' And they know we've got absolutely no intention whatsoever of doing that.
"I thought, 'God, she's a little star'. The version of the song she sang was so amazing - for it to have had such an impact, it really affected me." Ant and Dec, too, expressed their excitement over supporting an act that brought something entirely new to the table. "Even in our 17th series, we have had stuff that we've never seen before," Dec said, expressing his amazement, particularly at an extreme pogo stick act, among other surprising performances.Amanda, who has already shown support for the opera singer and her two golden buzzer acts, also shared her hope for a choir to take home the top prize.
The 45-year-old former chart-topper is noted for her composure on the judging panel, maintaining discipline with her golden buzzer privilege while others may indulge more liberally. She elaborates on her approach: "I quite like following rules - I'm very rebellious in my nature, but I do like a bit of structure," adding, "I only pressed my golden buzzer once because for me personally, it gives more value to the act that I've pressed it for.
He shared his heartfelt reaction to theatre audiences chanting his name as if he were a football star: "It surprises me every time. I love it! " he exclaimed. "It means a lot to me that they have taken me in. I never take that for granted."
