How does the new Ryzen 9 7900 fare against the competition?
My test system uses the latest version of Windows 11 along with the latest drivers. I used an Asus ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming WiFi motherboard, 32GB 6,000MHz G.SKill EXPO memory and an RTX 3070 graphics card.Below we can see that in Premiere Pro at least, there's not much to be gained by spending more on the X-series models and the Ryzen 7 7700X had the edge over the Core i5-13600K too.
In Cinebench's single-thread test, the Ryzrn 9 7900 fell a little short of the Ryzen 9 7900 and was noticeably behind the Core i7-13700K. Some game results didn't see much scaling above the mid-table results and the Ryzen 9 7900 was only a little slower than the Core i7-13700K here and you'd need to use a current high-end GPU to see much more difference.
