Actress and author Amy Huberman reflects on life after Brian O'Driscoll's rugby retirement, embracing their current chapter as parents and individuals pursuing their passions.
Amy Huberman is embracing a new chapter in her life as her and her children grow older. The actress and writer, married to Ireland and Leinster rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll, was often seen cheering him on at matches in the early days of their relationship. Since Brian retired from rugby in 2014, both he and Amy have flourished in their respective careers.
Brian now works as a respected rugby analyst and corporate speaker, while Amy has added bestselling children's author to her already impressive resume. The couple are also parents to three children, Billy, Sadie, and Ted.\Over a decade after Brian's retirement, Amy doesn't long for the 'WAG' phase of her life and is fully embracing this new stage for her and her family. 'I've been to some of the internationals but I haven't been to a provincial game since Brian retired. I brought my son and we went with a friend who's adjacent to her husband's job in that world, and it was like, 'Oh, I feel so old'. 'All the players are so young and so their partners are so young and you realize that you're at a completely different stage now,' she shared in Life magazine. \Amy doesn't dwell in the past, preferring to focus on the present. 'It is what it is. I loved it at the time but everything moves on and I don't miss it,' she explained. 'It was brilliant but it was intense and I loved being there with my kid now and having no stress and there being no emotional currency for me in the game. There was something lovely about realizing it's just a different stage of life.' While Brian has passed his love of rugby on to their son Billy, who plays on the same team as fellow Ireland legend Johnny Sexton's son, Luca, he has no plans to pressure any of his children into the sport if they lose interest. 'They'll do their own thing, they all have their interests, I wouldn't force them in any particular direction. 'Three people are always going to be very different personalities, so leave them fly their own kites,' Brian shared. \ Life is indeed busy for the couple, with Amy preparing to launch her brand-new wine business, Ah. This summer will also mark their 15th wedding anniversary. Brian revealed their plans for the milestone celebration: 'We'd like to go on holiday. We can only select our destination late because of my wife's career, so we will have to wait and see. 'I like France, we've been to Portugal in the past, and Spain. Maybe we will go to Italy next time, we haven't been there as a family.
