Andrew Porter insists Ireland can cope without Johnny Sexton and is backing Garry Ringrose to step up as a Six Nations skipper.
Sexton is set to miss the opening championship games against Wales and France after undergoing facial surgery on Monday, but no timeline has been given regarding his return.
"It's obviously tough losing your captain like that and the quality of player that Johnny is," said Porter. "In terms of Leinster, Garry Ringrose has stepped up incredibly well as captain. He is more than capable of fulfilling that role in terms of what you need as a captain." "And then Ross steps in having not been involved with Ireland for so long and sticks that one over the bar like he was never gone, basically.
"It’s similar to what Johnny does, that laser focus, when he hones in on something like that, like that kick was incredible. It just shows you the type of player he is.
