Ange Postecoglou believed Tottenham Hotspur could still take at least a point against Liverpool – even when they found themselves four goals behind after less than an hour.
The visitors hadn’t managed a single shot on target during the first half and barely threatened until Richarlison and James Maddison were introduced after Elliott’s goal. “At 4-0 we had a mountain to climb, but we put pressure on the opposition. We scored a couple of goals and could have got a couple more. It’s disappointing but at least we tried to play.
Postecoglou added: “It was a hugely disappointing outcome for us. But we were more like ourselves at the end unlike in our last two away games where we just didn’t try to play football.
