Anger and sadness over West Lancs golf club closure as council promises 'exciting' future
The head greenkeeper at a council-owned golf course has blasted the decision to close the facility down.
"The week before Christmas, we got called in for a meeting with Serco and they said they've been told the council had a meeting and voted to close it. So a week before Christmas we're told we're losing our jobs." Despite the promises of exciting future plans, Peter remains skeptical of what will happen next and insists a viable future was possible for the golfing facility. He said: "If they couldn't afford to run it as it is, they're not going to pay hundreds of thousands to put in a bike track, adventure centre or whatever they say they're planning. It all seems very strange.
Peter estimates that around £80k has been spent in recent years on irrigation and other improvements which will no longer be used. "Why spend all that money to speculate but not wait to accumulate?
