The broadcaster and businesswoman opens up about her family Christmas traditions, her hectic year so far, her TV and radio plans and community spirit around the GOAL Mile
Anna Daly has opened up about the “real sense of community” taking part in the GOAL Mile — and how it brings people together “to do something lovely for charity”.
Throughout the years, the GOAL Mile has seen thousands of people walk, jog or run one mile, or around 2,000 steps, to raise funds for GOAL at Christmas. And Anna told Chic how it’s a “lovely thing to be involved with” and the initiative has “grown year on year”. Anna added that for those doing the mile with a group, it might end with “you going for a coffee together or a drink together in your local pub”.
Anna told how one of the great things about the event is that “most people will be able to do it in whatever way they can, whether it’s walking, running or being supported by someone else”. “It’s those moments where you’re like, why did we put that off for so long? I’m so glad it happened. It’s like your soul dines out on it for a while.
“But I do think that as much as I love the cosy movie dates with my kinds and with my family, under blankets with the fire going — all of that is lovely.” The Hospital Live presenter told how she watches the pantos “through my kids, or through family’s eyes, as much as my own”. “But I was saying that the best toy, or the fanciest, was a bike — but really the most excitement I got from a toy was a typewriter. It was a Petite. I think that brand still exists.

That’s something that came about.“I think the most extraordinary people that I’ve met and interviewed haven’t been the big celebrities, as exciting as they are.
