We spoke to MayfairWitches star annabethgish about the themes that drew her to Anne Rice's depiction of witchery, and the tragic twists and turns that Deirdre Mayfair endured in episode 2, 'The Dark Place':
Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches just upended Rowan Fielding's life all over again in episode 2, titled "The Dark Place." The new AMC series is the second in its quickly-growing Immortal Universe, joining last year's Interview with the Vampire in adapting the supernatural world of Anne Rice novels for a more modern audience.
That's fascinating. There are some interesting differences in Dierdre's story when comparing the book and the series, so was that something that you discussed with the creators going into the show? Absolutely. As for your performance, there is a lot of stillness early on. You are literally just waiting for things to happen, which must be so hard. But at the same time, you still have this continuity to honor with the Dierdre we just saw from 30 years ago. And that's not counting the resemblance to Rowan, and what Dierdre could've been without interference.
It's so sad that we only get a few brief moments of interaction between your Dierdre and Carlotta and Cortland respectively. How much more time would you have liked to have opposite them, confronting them and working with those actors?
