The families were vying for 42 homes in a housing estate that will see 275 houses following construction next year

With many couples vying for their first house, many have reported sleeping in cars overnight at a Cork property site in a bid to have their foot in the door first.

DNG Creedon sales agent Shane Finn stressed that while they knew the properties would be in high demand, everyone was "caught off guard" when they witnessed two dozen cars parked outside the site early Saturday morning. "When cars started to build up, we organised for Cork Coffee Roasters to come up and serve some food at 9 o'clock, giving people fruit, chocolate, and water. We honestly had some good craic," he said.
