The next iPads are due next year, but rumors of a folding tablet have been greatly exaggerated, says a reliable Apple source.
For sure, Apple very rarely introduces a design of a phone or tablet, for instance, and only runs it for just one iteration. So, it was always most likely that the new-style iPad mini, with all-screen front and side-mounted Touch ID button would last for more than one version.
That’s what Kuo is referring to as the iPad we should expect by the end of next year or the year after. Since the current iPad mini launched in 2021, a new version in 2023 seems most likely to me, probably alongside a new iPad Air and, perhaps, an update to the fetching new tenth-generation iPad. Which leaves a folding iPad where? On the drawing board, I’d say. A folding tablet would be spectacular, but maybe Apple wants other brands to try such a thing first, before it decides to join the fray, echoing the familiar mantra, don’t do it first, do it right.
Whatever, if Kuo is right, and that’s usually the case, we’ll have to wait longer for a folding iPad. Mind you, the elegance of the latest mini is considerable, and serves the purpose of a more pocketable tablet very well.
