Armagh secured a decisive win against Kerry in the opening round of the Lidl National Football League Division 1, while Dublin edged out Mayo in a hard-fought encounter.
Armagh kicked off their Lidl National Football League Division 1 campaign with a convincing victory over Kerry at Austin Stack Park in Tralee. The Orchard County trailed at half-time but a resurgent second half, fueled by the introduction of substitutes Blaithín Mackin and Rebecca Cunningham, saw them claim a 3-17 to 1-13 triumph. \ Armagh 's second half surge was spearheaded by Mackin, who netted a crucial goal, and Cunningham, who added another with a well-taken strike.
Caroline O'Hanlon, who made her 24th consecutive inter-county appearance at the age of 40, lined out in midfield for Armagh. It was a promising start for joint-managers Darnell Parkinson and Joe Feeney. Kerry, led by new boss Mark Bourke, put up a valiant fight in the first half, with Síofra O'Shea proving to be a constant threat, scoring 1-6 including four frees. However, they faded in the final quarter, unable to match Armagh's relentless pressure.\Elsewhere, Dublin opened their Division 1 campaign with a hard-fought win over Mayo at Parnell Park. Despite losing captain Carla Rowe before the game, Dublin were quick off the mark, leading by two points early on thanks to scores from Niamh Hetherton and Sophie McIntyre. Mayo found it difficult to get going initially but Sinead Walsh eventually opened their account with a free. Rebecca McDonnell gave Dublin a three-point cushion with a superb goal just before half-time, but Mayo responded with a goal of their own from Walsh. Dublin regained control after the break with a goal from Chloe Darby, and despite a late rally from Mayo, Dublin held on for a 2-8 to 1-7 victory.
